SUWANEE - Gwinnett County Emergency crews rescued a kayaker from the Chattahoochee River Friday afternoon.

According to an email from the Fire Department, crews were dispatched just after 4:30 p.m. to a kayaker in distress on the Chattahoochee River between McGinnis Ferry Road and Rodgers Bridge Road in Suwanee.

The kayaker, a 61-year-old mand, was reportedly traveling down the river when the kayak flipped over. The kayaker attempted to get back in the kayak, but without success.

A Swift-Water Team was able to locate and rescue the man, and retrieve his kayak. The kayaker was checked out by paramedics and was released.

The latest update from the fire department says the victim was wearing a life vest, which played a vital role in his rescue.
