CUMMING - Parents are worried after receiving a letter from a Forsyth County elementary school principal, confirming that a student at the school has measles.

Fox 5 reports that parents received an email from the principal of Sharon Elementary, confirming the third grader was diagnosed with measles.

"I was a bit alarmed, because it's measles and it can spread fast," parent Rupa Jarsdi told Fox 5. "I did call my doctor's to just let them know that the schools has an incident of measles."

The TV station reports that the school requires vaccines for the students, unless they are granted a waiver for medical or religious reason. However, due to privacy laws, the school was unable to disclose whether or not the child had been vaccinated.

According to the CDC, this is the second case of measles in Georgia this year.
