DULUTH - Two people are behind bars in connection with the death of a 10-week-old girl in Duluth.

Duluth Police say Herbert "George" Landell, 26, and hiw wife, Lauren Fristed, 25, both face two counts of felony murder, cruelty to children and aggravated battery in the death of their daughter, Nevaeh Landell.

Major Don Woodruff said the couple brought their daughter to Gwinnett Medical Center on March 25, where she was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:27 p.m.

Hospital personnel notified police after they noticed the girl was "grossly underweight," although Woodruff said there did not appear to be signs of physical abuse.

The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's office conducted an autopsy on the girl.

A police investigation determined the parents' apartment on Pleasant Hill Road was unsanitary, and that Nevaeh was never taken to the doctor for medical examinations because of the couple's religious beliefs.

Woodruff said the cause of death for the infant was water poisoning along with malnourishment.
