JEFFERSON - Jackson EMC recently awarded Allison Walls, Flowery Branch High School senior, with a 2015 Walter Harrison Scholarship, named in honor of a rural electrification pioneer. This $1,000 scholarship can be applied to any accredited two or four-year university, college or vocational-technical school in Georgia.
The daughter of Mark and Julie Walls of Buford, Walls will attend the University of Georgia this fall to pursue a degree in biology and plans to become a doctor.
She is currently ranked one of the top five students of her class and has received numerous honors, including the President’s Volunteer Service Award, Governor’s Honors Program and Georgia Merit Scholar, among others. She’s treasurer of National Honor Society, yearbook editor and co-founder of the Flowery Branch High School’s Young Republicans Club.
Walls is also an alum of Youth Leadership Hall and the Washington Youth Tour, an annual leadership event for teens sponsored by the state’s electric cooperatives, including Jackson EMC. In addition, she tutors fellow math students, volunteers at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and the Hall County Library.
“When you see these students’ accomplishments, you can’t help but get excited and support them in any way possible,” says Ernest A. “Chip” Jakins III, Jackson EMC president/CEO. “It’s a privilege to help someone of Allison’s caliber succeed in life, and there’s no better way to ensure success than to earn a solid education.”
