COLUMBIA. S.C. -- Kayla Kelley had a day to remember for the Gainesville girls track team last weekend.
The junior earned 32 individual points for the Lady Elephants and helped them post 116 points to win the Henry Woodward Invitational meet at the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School.
Kelley’s effort also earned her the meet’s "Most Outstanding Performer" award.
The Lady Elephants competed in the meet along with 11 other schools from South Carolina and Augusta Preparatory School. The Lady Elephants finished two points ahead of host team Heath Hall Episcopal School.
Kelley also won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03 and took second in the 800 immediately following her 400 performance. She placed second in the high jump with a leap of 4-feet, 10-inches and took third in the triple jump. Kelly also was part of 4x400 relay team that finished first long with Sha'lice Green, Kiana Mitchell, and freshman Jada Harrison.
Tanisha Watson also had a solid day winning the long jump with a jump of 16-feet. Watson, Harrison, and Nala Jones took a 1-2-3 finish in 200 with Samiyah Toomer taking seventh in the event. Watson took second in 100.
The Lady Red Elephants 4x100 meter team of Harrison, Mitchell, Toomer, and Watson blew away the field and were just over a second off of the school record in winning the event.
Mitchell won the high jump with a leap of 5-feet.
Mitchell and Green finished 4th and 10th respectively in the 400 meters. Green helped take third in the 4x800 meter with freshman Mitxi Ortiz, and seniors Yisa Contreras and Naisha Lopez.
Alicia Ibarra placed 6th and set a personal best in the discus. Kamaja Jones placed 8th in the shot put and Nala Jones placed seventh in the long jump.
Kenisha Millsap earned points for GHS in the discus. Precious Wilkins placed seventh in the high jump for the Lady Red Elephants.
