FLOWERY BRANCH - Some elementary school students in south Hall County will have to change schools in the fall, thanks to an overcrowding situation at Spout Springs Elementary.
Parents showed up at a school board meeting at Flowery Branch High School Monday to talk about their concerns.
Schools Supt. Will Schofield says he knows redrawing student attendance lines won't be easy and that transitioning to new schools is difficult for families, but the board plans to act quickly on the realignment. He says the board will work on redrawing district lines in the next couple of weeks to ensure parents know where their kids will go to school in the fall.
"This whole idea is planning for the future," he added.
A number of students would be moved from Spouts Springs, which Schofield says has almost 1,000 students and is simply too crowded, to Friendship and Chestnut Mountain Elementary Schools, which have room for more kids right now.
School officials Monday night left open the door to "grandfathering in" some students, meaning they would be allowed to continue to attend their current schools in the face of any redistricting.
About 200 people showed up for the meeting.
