DAWSONVILLE - Jeff Perry, a parole officer and 26-year law enforcement veteran, says he plans to run for sheriff of Dawson County, a post being vacated at the end of next year by Billy Carlisle.

“I am excited to announce my campaign for sheriff," Perry said.  "My family and I have deep-roots here in Dawson County. I am running for sheriff to serve the citizens of Dawson County because there is nothing more important to me than keeping our families safe, and I am committed to putting my experience to work to protect and serve the people of Dawson County.”

“I believe I can bring a depth of experience to the (office) that is unmatched, with 26 years of experience in law enforcement, tough decision making and in managing a budget and staff. The job of sheriff is too important to leave to the inexperienced or to those who may lack the vision and leadership to effectively do the job."

Perry has served as a Parole Officer for the State Board of Pardons and Paroles for 26 years. For the last 18 years, he has served as a Chief Parole Officer.

As a Chief Parole Officer, he has managed a district parole office consisting of seven rural and urban counties

He has been chosen to serve on numerous federal, state and local task forces and was also assigned to the 1996 Olympic Law Enforcement Team SOLEC (State Olympic Law Enforcement Command) and as a security supervisor for the 2004 G-8 Summit of world leaders.

Perry earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University and is currently completing his Masters in Criminal Justice at the University of North Georgia. He has also completed the Certified Public Managers Program through the Carl Vinson Institute and numerous leadership and professional classes.

Perry plans to run as a Republican.
