WINDER - Two people were killed Friday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Winder.
According to a press release from Winder Police Sgt. Chris Cooper, authorities were notified of the accident, which occurred between Cedar Valley Trail and Hillcrest Drive, at approximately 4 p.m.
The release said three unidentifed males were traveling northbound on State Route 53 when the driver lost control and the vehicle skidded off the roadway. The car would eventually come to rest between the aformentioned roadways.
Two of the vehicle's occupants were killed instantly in the subsequent collision, while a third was able to exit the car without injuries. That person was treated at the scene and declined transport to an area hospital.
While the incident is still under investigation by the Winder Police Department, the release said that there was substantial rainfall at the time of the crash that is believed to be a contributiong factor to the accident.
Names of those involved are not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
