JEFFERSON -- Jared Bates and Asher Standridge combined on a one-hitter to lead Jefferson to a 12-2 victory in five innings over Riverside Military Academy Tuesday.

The Dragons (17-4) recorded 11 RBI on nine hits for the game, paced by Taylor Wilkes, Christian Hutch, Micah Carpenter, Zack Boobas, and Hunter Thompson with two RBI each. Will Breese had one RBI for Jefferson.

Despite the big win, Jefferson actually trailed the Eagles 2-0 after the top of the first when Ricky Jones, who got RMA’s only hit to start the game, scored on an error and Maxwell McGinnis drove in a run with a bases loaded walk off Bates.

Bates went three innings allowing just one earned run and striking out five while walking four. Standridge pitched final two innings fanning four and allowing no hits or walks.

The Dragons answered in a big way in the bottom of the first with eight runs, highlighted by RBI hits from Carpenter, Boobas, Breese, Thompson, and Wilkes. It stayed that way until Jefferson scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth when Wilkes knocked in a run and a two-run triple by Hutch clinched the win.

Jefferson will be off until next Tuesday when it travels to Elbert County in a Region 8-AAA contest.
