ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) has concluded its investigation into allegations that a Gainesville church daycare was operating outside its exempt status and has found the claims to be unsubstantiated.

The investigation into Rescue 2000 Church at 2920 Florence Road began on February 23 after media reports that a five-year-old girl allegedly suffered a head injury while being cared for in the church’s free daycare program.

"Because the program operates under an exemption from state rules and regulations, DECAL’s only jurisdiction was to determine if the center was operating outside its exemption," DECAL spokesman Reg Griffin said Tuesday.

Copies of the investigation can be obtained by filing an Open Records Request with DECAL at http://www.decal.ga.gov/BftS/OpenRecordsRequest.aspx.
