GAINESVILLE -  A work of art from the private collection of Charles and Lessie Smithgall has been donated to the Quinlan Visual Arts Center permanent collection. The piece is by 17th century Dutch Baroque Artist Rembrandt Van Rijin and is an ink etching on paper of the artist’s father called “Rembrandt’s Father in a High Hat.”

The piece was unveiled Thursday at a private reception.

The work will be available for public viewing beginning Friday during the Quinlan's regular operating hours. Admission to the center to view the exhibitions and permanent collection is free.  The Quinlan is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
