Winter: Gainesville GDOT repairing, still cleaning up

GAINESVILLE - Georgia Department of Transportation crews are still cleaning up following the recent winter storms in northeast Georgia - and repair work is beginning on some roads that suffered weather-related damage.

Today crews are beginning the installation of thousands of raised pavement markers (RPMs) that were scraped away by snowplows.

Meanwhile, crews are still removing debris, fallen limbs and damaged trees from rights of way in the hardest hit counties: Dawson, Forsyth, Gwinnett and Lumpkin.

Installation of RPMs begins today in Gainesville along SR 11/US 129. This work requires a rolling lane closure and will cause delays in the area. Replacing the thousands of RPMs in northeast Georgia will take several months, according to GDOT officials.

Raised pavement markers are reflective delineators that help motorists see lane lines during low light conditions especially at night.
