Integrated Construction and Nobility, Inc. was awarded the $46,040.77 contract to replace boards along the trails.
City Manager Marty Allen says it won't cause the trail to be closed, however.
"It's going to be phased in. At the end of their work, they're going to have to put boards down to secure it, so it's going to stay open the entire time," said Allen.
Allen says the work isn't happening along the entire trail, either.
"(It is) mostly on our pedestrian walkway that connects (Suwanee) Town Center to the Greenway," said Allen.
The work should be underway "soon," according to Allen.
There was no definitive timetable for when the work would be wrapped up.
"This is just routine, on-going maintenance. It's not the result of any failure (of any of the structures)," said Allen.
He also noted that Integrated Construction and Nobility submitted the lowest of the four bids they received.
The motion to approve the contract was approved unanimously.
Integrated Construction and Nobility has also done work at parks in Jackson and Cobb Counties; the company is based in Whitesburg, Georgia (Carroll County).
OTHER NOTES
-Council approved a special use permit for Karina Miller to allow outdoor pet boarding at 1495 Buford Highway Associates, LLC. Several residents from nearby neighborhoods raised concerns about the plan, mostly citing pet-related noise and odors, and how that would affect property values. The city planning staff said this motion would actually reduce the amount of time the pets are outside. Council approved the motion unanimously.
-Council authorized Mayor Jimmy Burnette to execute an inter-governmental agreement with Gwinnett County. Suwanee will borrow Gwinnett's voting equipment for the November 3, 2015 municipal election.
