The transportation bill passed in a 29-25 vote Friday and includes several cuts from the original plan.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the bill passed after lawmakers agreed to cut more than $201 million from the proposal. The cuts leave the bill short of $1 billion that a study has said Georgia needs to maintain its infrastructure.
Among other things, the bill the Senate passed includes a 24 cent-per-gallon excise tax on gasoline and diesel, the elimination of a $5,000 electric vehicle tax credit, the elimination of an aviation fuel tax credit, and $250 million annual payments toward debt service for the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The bill now goes back to the House.
