The church will mark the milestone in a number of ways during morning services this Sunday at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00. Members are celebrating the anniversary through a Legacy Bible Reading, meaning the continuous reading of the Bible in 15-minute increments from start to finish in six days.
The church began 60 years ago when 37 charter members purchased four acres for
$4,000. It has now grown to 8,000 members - twice the number just 10 years ago - and sits on a 40-acre campus at a major south Hall intersection.
The church is located in one of the fastest-growing areas of north Georgia, and church leaders and members are planning for the future as the church moves into its 61st year.
Recently, members pledged their support for construction of a new 3,000-seat worship center, as well as increased parking, better campus circulation and expanded capacity to minister to preschoolers and children.
During the anniversary celebration Sunday, Pastor Jeff Crook will announce the pledge amount, and the members of Blackshear Place will bring their first gifts toward fulfilling their pledges.
