OAKWOOD -- West Hall High School Principal Scott Justus and Athletic Director Ethan Banks announced Wednesday that boys head basketball coach Warren Sellers has announced his resignation.

Sellers had been in the position since 1998. During his tenure Sellers has took four teams to the state tournament, reaching the Sweet 16 three times, and captured the school's only boys Lanierland Tournament title in 2008.

He is the winningest basketball coach in West Hall history, compiling a 182-182 record.

Sellers also began the fast pitch softball program at West Hall, leading it to seven state tournament appearances in 12 years. He complied a record of 219-157 during his time as softball coach, winning a region championship in 2005 and finishing third in the Class AAA state tournament in 2002.

Banks said they have just began the process for finding a successor to Sellers.

"Coach Sellers did a great job in his time here and he will be hard to replace," Banks said. "We're looking for someone who can come in here and build on what he has done. Obviously we'd like to find someone as soon as possible but we want to take our time to find the right person."

Sellers will remain as a P.E. teacher at West Hall.

The resignation of Sellers now makes Johnson boys coach Jeff Steele the longest-reigning basketball coach at one school in Hall County. Steele also began his career at Johnson the same year as Sellers in 1998.
