CLERMONT - A Clermont businessman is one step closer to getting his wish to de-annex his property from the town.

City Clerk Sandra Helton says the Clermont Town Council voted Tuesday night in favor of Chris Nonnemaker's request, which he says is tied to plans to sell the property. Those plans are contingent on the land being in the county.

The property in question houses Papa's Pizza To-Go, totals six acres and is located on Cleveland Highway.

The town council will hold a second reading on the request April 7.

At a Hall County Commission meeting last month, County Planning Director Srikanth Yamala said de-annexation would clear the way for a sports bar on the tract, which is not permitted as long as its in Clermont because Clermont is "dry." (See earlier story. Link below.)
