GAINESVILLE - "As is often the case, we (had) the 'tale of two cities" in Hall County this morning."

That's how Hall County Schools Supt. Will Schofield summed up the situation that greeted school officials Thursday morning after the snow had ended.

"Early reports are that almost all road and parking lot conditions from Gainesville and south are clear," Schofield said at mid-morning. "However, in the north (end of the county) we have ice- and snow-covered secondary roads and parking lots that are almost impassable. We had pre-treated all of our...parking lots, and our school crews (will work on) the northern parking lots throughout the day (as) county and DOT road crews are (work) widely affected secondary roads."

Schofield says he hopes to know more later today on the prospects for classes Friday "but with a little sunshine and the 40-plus degrees predicted...I am hopeful about tomorrow's possibilities."

Thank you to our HCSD maintenance crews, county crews and DOT for their efforts to get us all up and running.
