Football standout Johnson indicted on aggravated rape charges

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A former star football player for Gainesville High School and the University of Tennessee has now been formally indicted on aggravated rape charges.<br />
<br />
The indictment against A.J. Johnson and his UT teammate Michael Williams stem from an incident at Johnson's apartment last November, according to report in the Knoxville News-Sentinel. Both men faces two counts of aggravated rape.<br />
<br />
A 19-year-old female student at the University of Tennessee told authorities she was assaulted during a party at Johnson's home on the south side of Knoxville.<br />
<br />
Both Johnson and Williams were suspended from the football team when the allegations were made, and neither player returned for the remainder of the season.<br />
<br />
The newspaper reported Friday that some three dozen witnesses testified before the Knox County grand jury this week. <br />
<br />
At last report, Johnson had not turned himself in to authorities.<br />
