GAINESVILLE - Plans by Left Nut Brewing Company, Inc., to locate a micro-brewery in Gainesville's Midtown have fallen through but the developer is not giving up. Nilanjan Datta now has his eyes set on a site in the Chicopee area south of town.

According to the agenda for next month's Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board, Datta who was approved for the Midtown location last October (see related story; link below) was subsequently unable to come to terms with the property owner. Now, he is hoping to locate the facility in a 21,000-square-foot building at Atlanta Highway and Chicopee Mill Road that served as the administration building for Chicopee Mill before the mill closed several years ago.

The application says the brewery will employ five-to-eight people initially and up to 22 permanent employees in the future. Tours and tastings for the public will be offered Tuesday through Saturday and primarily after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.

The planning and appeals board is scheduled to consider the request at its March 10 meeting at 5:30 at the Gainesville Justice Center/Public Safety Complex.
