UNG knocks off division-leading Montevallo

DAHLONEGA -- Six Nighthawks scored in double figures as the University of North Georgia men's basketball team snapped division-leading Montevallo's seven-game winning streak, 93-86, in Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday afternoon in UNG's Memorial Hall. <br />
<br />
The win broke an eight-game losing streak to the Falcons for UNG.<br />
<br />
North Georgia's last win over Montevallo dates back to January 24, 2011 (68-64). <br />
<br />
Shaquan Cantrell led the Nighthawks with 17 points while T.J. Williams added 13 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Ebo Smith and Travis core each scored 13 while Sean Brennan and Corey Green added 12 and 11 respectively for the Nighthawks.<br />
<br />
Troran Brown led Montevallo (16-8, 12-2 PBC) with 18 points and passed the 1,500 career points plateau.<br />
<br />
North Georgia trailed for most of the first half before a late 13-3 run handed gave the Nighthawks a 34-33 lead at the break. The teams would trade the lead a few times early in the second half, but North Georgia would claim the lead for good with 13:41 showing on the clock.<br />
<br />
UNG held a decisive 44-33 edge on the glass but struggled from the charity stripe, 22-40 (55%).<br />
<br />
North Georgia returns to action on Wednesday (Feb. 11) with a road trip to Georgia Southwestern.
