DECATUR, Ga. (AP) -- DeKalb County prosecutors say a former county police officer has been sentenced in a fatal crash.
District Attorney's spokesman Erik Burton said in a statement Thursday that former officer Kristina Hambie has been given a 10 year sentence with three to serve.

Prosecutors say Hambie was on duty Feb. 19, 2011 and was driving 74 mph in a 35 mph zone when she hit a Nissan Altima in the Avondale Estates area. Authorities say she wasn't responding to an emergency call at the time of the crash. Two longtime friends Shelley Amos and Cheryl Burton were killed.

Hambie pleaded guilty to reckless driving, violating her oath of office and two counts of vehicular homicide.

Hambie is ordered to surrender to authorities by May 11.
