There may still be a couple of days to go before the New Year, but for some local racers, the focus is already solidly on the new racing season.
Among those is Lavonia Speedway, as officials at the 3/8 mile clay raceway in Lavonia, Ga. have announced the schedule for their 2016 season.
The season officially opens on Sunday, March, 6, as the track has slated racing in all local divisions, along with a car show.
The season kicks into high gear early this year for Lavonia, as the track will play host to the three day “Late Model Mania” on March 11-13, including racing from the FASTRAK Late Model Series.
The first points race of the season will be held on Friday, April 1, with most races during the season being held on Lavonia’s traditional Friday night schedule.
Among other races slated for Lavonia’s 2016 season is the new Alpha Art Company Crate-Sportsman 602 Thunder Series, which will make two appearances during the year. The first will be on April 15, with the second coming on a rare Sunday race date on September 18.
The Max King Memorial, one of the biggest races of the year at Lavonia, will run on June 3, featuring double points for drivers. The FASTRAK Touring Series returns on July 1, with the Ultimate Super Late Model Series headlining the August 5 race night. USCS Sprint Car action returns on Friday, September 2.
Lavonia will close out the season Nov. 11-13 with the Georgia State Championships.
