Good Samaritan struck, killed by vehicle in Jackson County

A man who was helping a stranded motorist was struck and killed by another vehicle in Jackson County Monday night.

Steve Nichols, the Director of Emergency Services for Jackson County, said the accident happened on Georgia Highway 60 near Highway 124 about 9:30.

Nichols said the victim was helping change a flat tire when he was hit.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Another person suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.  

The Georgia State Patrol identified the victim as 43-year-old John Wayne Napier of Screven. Investigators said no charges will be filed in the fatal crash.
