OAKWOOD — For one of the few times in recent years, there were no real upsets in the opening round of the 56th annual Lanierland Tournament.
However, there were several impressive wins Monday at the Johnson High gym as every team that advanced to Tuesday's semfinal comes in with a winning record. The semifinal and finals will move to East Hall Tuesday and Wednesday.
On the girls side, East Hall, Flowery Branch, Gainesville, and North Hall all advanced. The Lady Trojans will take on Flowery Branch in one semifinal at 3 p.m. and arch-rivals East Hall and Gainesville will play in the other semifinal at 6 p.m.
On the boys side, East Hall, Flowery Branch, and West Hall all advanced with wins Monday. North Hall advanced with a bye after Gainesville had to withdraw from the field.
North Hall and East Hall will play at 4:30 p.m. in one semifinal and Flowery Branch and West Hall will tangle at 7:30 p.m. in the other semifinal.
