OAKWOOD - What had been a peaceful and uneventful Christmas Day for Hall County firefighters abruptly came to an end Friday evening when crews were dispatched to two residential fires on the northwest side of Oakwood.
Hall County Fire Captain Zachary Brackett said that both fires were located in the Flat Creek area.
The first fire broke out inside of a single-wide mobile home on Flat Creek Road just off of McEver Road. Brackett said crews arriving on scene discovered that the home was roughly 75% involved with fire, but an aggressive interior attack allowed them to extinguish the fire in a relatively short amount of time.
The second fire, located just off Flat Creek Road, effected a 3500-square-feet residence on Hidden Harbor Landing. According to Brackett, the building was approximately 30% involved with fire when crews arrived on scene.
Due to the early nature of the investigation, the cause of both fires is unknown at this time. An official damage estimate for both structures is yet to be determined, as well.
This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
