Piedmont concert to feature classical, spiritual songs

DEMOREST - An upcoming concert at Piedmont College will feature South Carolina-born baritone Washington Isaac Holmes performing a program of classical and spiritual songs.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, in the Chapel at Piedmont’s Demorest campus. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Piedmont College students, faculty, and staff are admitted free.

Accompanied by pianist Greg Hankins of Athens, Holmes will sing Robert Schumann’s “Dichterliebe” song cycle and works by Jean Berger, Georges Bizet, and Hall Johnson. Holmes will collaborate with Piedmont faculty member Jonathan Pilkington on a duet.

Holmes earned degrees in vocal performance at the University of South Carolina and the University of Michigan and is currently a doctoral student in vocal performance at Paine College in Augusta. As a soloist, chorister, and dancer he has performed across the U.S., Europe, and Asia, appearing in in numerous musical theatre and operatic roles.
