LULA - The Lula City Council paused near the end of its meeting Monday night to say goodbye to a man who has served the city for more than a decade.

Mayor Milton Turner presented Councilman Larry Shuler, who has served as mayor pro tem this year, with an Outstanding Civic Award commemorating his 12 years of service to the city.

"The City of Lula presents the Outstanding Civic Award for outstanding accomplishment, attainment, achievement to the benefit of our city and community," Turner read.

Following the plaque presentation, Shuler shared his thoughts with those in attendance.

"I've enjoyed the 12 years of it," Shuler said. "I think 12 years is enough time for me to spend in it."

Shuler said he reluctantly ran for re-election this year, at the request of three or four people, but his heart really wasn't in a fourth term.

"I hope that in these 12 years that I've been with the city that I've done some little something to help the city out, and the people of the town of Lula," Shuler said.
