STATHAM — A small plane crash left the pilot dead at a Barrow County golf course Sunday afternoon.

According to Lt. Scott Dakin of Barrow County Fire Services, officials were called to the scene at 2:30 p.m. and found the single-engine plane crashed near hole three of the Georgia Club Golf Course in the Georgia Club subdivision near Statham. Dakin said the pilot was the only person in the plane and was found dead at the scene.

Dakin said the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.

Friends of the pilot identified him to Atlanta TV stations. They said 81-year-old Billy Bryant was an experienced pilot.
