DAHLONEGA — The Lumpkin County boys, looking to top last year’s win total of nine before the Christmas break, could not hang on against East Hall Friday night.
The Vikings outscored the Indians 21-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 73-63 win in a crucial Region 7-AAA win on the road.
Lumpkin County (9-2, 3-1 Region 7-AAA) came into the game allowing just 49 points a game but could not contain East Hall (5-3, 2-1) which was coming off a two-game losing streak. The Leopards won just nine game all of last season and had the second-most wins in Class AAA heading into Friday's action.
Lumpkin County jumped out to an 18-15 lead after the first quarter. But the Vikings battled back to take a 34-32 lead by halftime. The Indians rallied to tie the game at 52 heading into the fourth quarter.
Lumpkin County was tied with Banks County atop the region standings. The Indians dropped one-game behind the Lepards with the loss while East Hall, pulled within one-game game of the Indians and just one-game behind Banks County with the win.

Carly Winters scored a career-high 39 points, including draining a school-record 10 3-pointers, to lead the Lady Vikings to a key Region 7-AAA victory on the road.
East Hall (7-2, 2-1 Region 7-AAA) stormed out from the opening tip taking a 28-2 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Indians (3-8, 1-3) only points in the quarter came on a Hope Foster basket.
The Lady Vikings extended their lead to 47-13 at halftime behind 19 points from Winters before the break. Kylah Mize had 13 of her 15 points in the first half.
East Hall pushed its lead to 60-25 at the end of the third quarter.
Jenny Edwards finished with nine points and Ashlyn Ellison eight as East Hall won its second straight game.
Lumpkin County was led by Foster, who finished with nine points. It was the third straight loss for the Lady Indians and their sixth in seven games since a 2-2 start.
