GAINESVILLE—A Gainesville mother now faces a stiffer list of charges following an appearance in Hall County Magistrate Court on Monday.

Grace An, 18, is accused of binding her 16-month-old son with cellophane and packing tape on November 11 and leaving him in a car. A locksmith was called when An said she had locked her keys in her car; the locksmith called police when he noticed the boy in the back seat.

An initially faced charges of reckless conduct, first degree cruelty to children and false imprisonment.

The reckless conduct charge was upgraded to aggravated assault, according to court officials.

The child was treated and released at a local hospital.

He is now in the care of the Department of Family and Children Services.
