GAINESVILLE - A North Carolina man sentenced to life in prison this week for molesting a young relative in Gwinnett County now faces a trial in Hall County.

The victim in both counties was the same seven-year-old boy.

Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Nicole Bailes said Syrus Bradett Martin was arrested in March 2014 for two alleged sexual assaults on the boy in 2007. She said the alleged crimes happened on Lombardy Drive in Lula.

"Our victim, he lived inside of Gwinnett County, and then he and his family moved into Hall County, so we had separate incidents.  This occurred over a period of time, multiple times," Bailes said.

Martin had been in jail in Gwinnett County since October 2014. His trial ended a week ago and he was sentenced this past Monday, according to a report in the Gwinnett Daily Post.  According to the newspaper, Martin was 15 at the time of the Gwinnett molestations.

Bailes said Martin was charged with aggravated child molestation and aggravated sodomy in Hall County.

"The allegations stem back actually with the child, when he initially disclosed to a family member that these incidents occurred back in 2007," Bailes said.

Bailes said Martin's Hall County trial is on the court calendar.
