DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia (UNG) is one of 2016’s Most Affordable Online Colleges in Georgia, according to OnlineColleges.net.

"We understand the challenges facing students who wish to further their education while balancing family, work or other demands," said Dr. Irene Kokkala, director of UNG’s division of distance education and technology integration. "UNG offers the flexibility of quality online courses providing unparalleled convenience and accessibility."

Using data from the National Center for Education Statistics, a division of the U.S. Department of Education and the Institute of Education Sciences, OnlineColleges.net compiled a list of the 21 most affordable accredited, not-for-profit institutions of higher education in Georgia offering a range of programs that can be completed fully online. UNG earned a ranking at No. 7.

UNG offers four master’s degrees, two associate degrees, two teaching certificate endorsements and a gerontology certificate online.

Graduate students can pursue a Master of Education in middle grades math and science; a Master of Science in criminal justice; a Master of Science in physical education; or a Master of Arts in International Affairs.

The two associate degrees are an Associate of Arts in core curriculum with a pathway to social sciences and an Associate of Arts in core curriculum with a pathway to social work.

UNG also offers a teacher education gifted in-field endorsement certificate, and a teacher education reading certificate.

Some of UNG’s online courses are also offered through eCore, a state-wide initiative that allows colleges and universities within the University System of Georgia to collaborate on in-demand courses and offer them in an accelerated online format to students at their respective institutions. UNG also provides other courses that are offered online or in hybrid option that combines some online coursework with a traditional classroom component.

"Our faculty and staff care about student success, and specialize in delivering engaging online instruction within an innovative learning environment," said Dr. Richard Oates, interim provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. "Our programs are designed to meet the needs of our traditional students as well as non-traditional students who wish to return to school to complete a degree they started previously or to start their collegiate career for the very first time."
