Girls basketball: Defense carries Lady Tigers to win over Chestatee

DAWSONVILLE — The Dawson County defense held Chestatee to 10-points or less in every quarter en route to a 52-34 winfor the Lady Tigers Friday night.

Dawson County (5-0, 0-0 Region 7-AAA) used a big first half to take control and then cruised to the win on the second half. The Lady Tigers opened with a 17-8 first quarter and increased their lead to 31-16 by halftime.

Senior Karlie Bearden paced Dawson County with a double-double scoring 26 points, 13 in the first quarter, to go with 10 rebounds. Kaylee Sticker added 10 points and Katelynn Simpson nine for the Lady Tigers.

Chestatee cut into the lead with a 10-6 run in the third quarter but could get no closer as Dawson County closed out the game with a 15-8 fourth quarter.

The Lady War Eagles (3-2) were led by Dawndria Bell and Morgan Bryant with nine points each. Lindsey Caudell and Peri Satterfield had six points apiece for Chestatee. 

Dawson County next will open its Region 7-AAA schedule traveling to East Hall on Tuesday.

Chestatee travels to Banks County on Saturday with a 4 p.m. tip-off..
