THOMASTON — On Tuesday schools across the state, and plenty here in northeast Georgia, will learn their region foes for the next two years, as the GHSA releases its new alignments for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years.

There are sure to be plenty of eye-opening regions set after the GHSA recently revealed its new classifications for the next two years, and it will be intriguing to see where every northeast Georgia program winds up.

In the new classifications released last week, Gainesville moved up from Class AAAAA to Class AAAAAA, Buford jumped into Class AAAAA, while Jefferson, East Hall, and West Hall each moved up to Class AAAA.

Union County could face a particularly interesting ride, as the school has petitioned to play up a classification -- from AA to AAA.

AccessWDUN will publish the new regions as soon as they are revealed and will bring you reaction from athletic directors and coaches situated across northeast Georgia.

Union County and Lumpkin County football teams compete earlier this season.
