DAHLONEGA — The University of North Georgia women's soccer team had five student-athletes selected to the 2015 D2CCA All-Southeast Region Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Monday. The five honorees were the second most in the region behind Columbus State's six selections.
Three Nighthawks were tabbed to the first team. Defender Megan Gil, and midfielders Jade Pennock and Sophia Matonak pulled in the honor. It was the second consecutive First Team All-Region honor for Matonak on the CoSIDA voted team. All three of UNG's first team honorees are now eligible for selection to the D2CCA All-America Team.
North Georgia was well represented on the second team as well landing defender Jessica Allen and forward Jacy Ramey on the list. It is the first All-Region honor for both players.
Columbus State's Nicole Corcione was named the Southeast Region Player of the Year.
The teams were voted on by Sports Information Directors from throughout the region. The All-America program is now sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
