BUFORD — Worth County may have entered Friday's game with three 1,000 yard rushers -- but Buford showed, once again, that it takes more than just eye-popping stats to make a dent on the Wolves come playoff time.

Buford slowed the Worth ground attack to a trickle, while also rushing for 405 yards of its own in a 42-0 second round Class AAAA playoff victory in Buford.

The Wolves (11-1) scored 21 points in either half to roll to their 16th straight state quarterfinal appearance, where they will take on Thomson on the road next week. It will be the Wolvesfirst playoff road test after losing a coin flip on Saturday to determine the home team.

Certainly Buford will enter the contest confident in its abilities on the ground, as four different Wolves rushed for touchdowns -- including a pair for Martin Mangram, who finished with 53 yards on just six carries. Xavier Gantt led all Buford backs with 86 yards on eight carries. He also had a touchdown. Anthony Grant also provided nine carries for 66 yards and a score, while Christian Turner had five rushes for 80 yards and a touchdown.

Mangram's two touchdowns came in the first quarter and made it 14-0 -- and the Wolves continued to grind away from there.

Dontavious Buford led Worth County with 79 yards on 12 carries.

It was not a perfect game for Buford, which committed two turnovers and were penalized nine times for 70 yards -- but a lopsided playoff win with room to improve is impressive in its own right.

Buford's Martin Mangram scores one of his two touchdowns in Friday's playoff win over Worth County in Buford.
