ATLANTA - A lawsuit filed against Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp alleges that the state released personal information including Social Security numbers for more than 6 million registered voters.

Attorney Jennifer Auer Jordan filed the complaint this week on behalf of two women and is seeking class-action status.

Kemp's office regularly sends an updated voter file via CD to political parties, media organizations and others.

Kemp in a statement says the personal information was put in the wrong file. He says 12 recipients got the discs.

The complaint says the discs provided in October contained social security numbers, driver's license numbers and dates of birth for 6.1 million voters.

Georgia law allows political parties and media free copies of the voter file. Others are charged $500.
