CUMMING - A Forsyth County jury has acquitted Lumpkin County Deputy Coroner Sonya Abercrombie on all felony charges of impersonating a police officer, according to Abercrombie's lawyers.

Abercrombie was arrested in August 2014 for impersonating a police office at Austin's Restaurant in Cumming. The manager of the restaurant claimed she flashed a badge and claimed to be a police office and called authorities.

Abercrombie's lawyers, defense attorney AJ Richman, launched their own investigation.

“As soon as my team and I started investigating the details surrounding this case, we unequivocally believed that Ms. Abercrombie was not guilty,” said AJ Richman. “The lack of investigation by the officers at the time of the arrest, in conjunction with the witnesses we put on the stand who proved our client’s innocence, helped us to shed light on the truth. We are pleased with the jury’s verdict, and thankful Ms. Abercrombie can now return to her job as a government official.”

Abercrombie was aquitted by a jury after a four day trial.
