DEMOREST — October 20 marked the final home game for the Lady Lion volleyball team as the 2015 season drew to a close and for a grand finale, it lived up to the hype. Not only were the fans treated to a five-set thriller against Covenant, but the players were given an intense atmosphere thanks to a packed house on Cram the Cave night.
"We always have a lot of our parents there, but this was one of the first matches that the students showed up in mass and because of that it felt like a big time college match," Head Volleyball Coach Sid Feldman said. "There was an emotion about protecting Piedmont Lions and supporting our athletic teams and players, but to be really honest, I was so into the match that I didn't realize the fans were so loud and into the match until the last point of the second game.
"The roar that came up when we scored that last point in the second game, I think that was a huge boost and was the reason we took the third game that night. The kids were just beside themselves. They really felt the emotion in the gym," Feldman said.
"It's one thing when your team mates are saying great hit, great job but when the stands are clapping and yelling your number it really gets you going," senior Taylor Cramsey said.
While it was a thrilling atmosphere, it was also an emotional night as both Mallory Leary and Cramsey played their final matches in the Green and Gold inside Cave Arena.
"It means the world to me. I've had the best four years," senior Leary said. "I've come really close with all the girls on this team. I feel that this year has been the year that we've really come together as a team."
"Me and Mallory both came in as freshmen...and we're the only two graduating so it's special to have her with me," Cramsey said. "I couldn't ask for better team mates, or a better coach, or a better school to be playing at so I'm really thankful for being here all four years."
