LAWRENCEVILLE — Cameron Turley passed for 289 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another to lead Class AAAAAA fifth-ranked Mill Creek to a 42-17 thumping of Collins Hill in one of two battles Friday night for first place in Region 7-AAAAAA.
With the win the Hawks (8-0, 5-0 Region 7-AAAAAA) remained tied atop the region, now with just Peachtree Ridge, who beat Norcross 31-0 on Friday in the other battle of region unbeatens. Collins Hill (4-4, 4-1) dropped into third-place tie with Norcross with the loss.
Mill Creek never trailed as Joe Thomas scored on a 15-yard touchdown run and Jamar Hill scored on a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown for a 14-0 first quarter lead. The Eagles trimmed the lead to 14-6 early in the second quarter but Turley connected with Preston Norwood on a 60-yard bomb on the next possession to push the lead to 21-6.
Collins Hill pulled within 21-14 but Turley and Edmond Graham hooked up for a 67-yard touchdown for a 28-14 lead. The Eagles cut the lead to 28-17 by halftime on a 39-yard field goal.
The second quarter points for Collins Hills broke a 19-quarter streak for Mill Creek without allowing a point. It would be all Hawks in the second half.
Turley and Graham connected again on an 87-yard scoring and then Turley capped the scoring with a 7-yard touchdown run, both in the third quarter, for a 42-17 lead.
Graham finished with four catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns while Norwood added three catches for 79 yards and one score.
