State officials say Mama G's fire was accidental, electrical in nature

CLAYTON - Investigators and heavy equipment were on the scene of Mama G's Italian Restaurant on Highway 441 in Clayton Wednesday to investigate the cause of the Monday fire that destroyed the eatery.

Wednesday afternoon, the cause of that fire was released.

The cause of the fire that destroyed the 5,000-square-foot restaurant was electrical in the area of the bar, and the manner of the fire was accidental, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.

The insured loss was about $1 million, according to state officials.

A fund for Mama G's employees has been established at Rabun County Bank.

Investigators say the fire that destroyed Mama G's Italian Restaurant in Clayton Monday was electrical in nature and started in the area of the bar.
Heavy equipment was used to remove some of the debris to allow investigators easier access to the center of the building.
