AUGUSTA — University of North Georgia sophomore Ivan Acimovic was named the Peach Belt Conference AstroTurf Men's Soccer Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday.
Acimovic scored his first two goals of the season in the Nighthawks' two biggest games of the season. He provided the lone score in UNG's 1-0 win at Clayton State and then had his second with four seconds left in regulation in a 2-2 tie against UNC Pembroke.
The sophomore midfielder from Belgrade, Serbia, blasted his first goal of the season from the far right side into the upper 90 in the 17th minute against Clayton State. He then helped the defense make that stand up in a 1-0 win to hand the Lakers their first home loss of the season.
Against UNC Pembroke, Acimovic was in the box to put home a loose ball after a free kick at the 89:56 mark, sending the game to overtime and the eventual tie.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 20) with a 6:00 p.m. non-conference match at home against Shorter.
