ATLANTA - First-time claims for unemployment insurance were down almost eleven percent last month from a year ago, led by Dalton and Gainesville.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said claims were down 10.8 percent statewide, with Dalton reporting a 66.1 percent decline and Gainesville, 44.4 percent.

Only two of the state's fourteen metropolitan areas reported increases: Athens (9.3 percent) and Warner Robins (1.7 percent).

Butler said claims were down by 3,271 from 30,199 filed last September. The decline, he added, came in a number of industries, including accommodations and food services, administrative and support services, manufacturing, health care and social assistance, and transportation and warehousing.
