BUFORD -- Class AAAA third-ranked Buford held Monroe Area to just nine yards of total offense and just one first down in a 51-0 shutout in Region 8-AAAA play Friday night at Tom Riden Stadium.
The Wolves (6-1, 4-0 Region 8-AAAA) held the Purple Hurricanes (2-5, 1-3) to minus-30 yards rushing while piling up 201 yards on the ground of their own.
However, junior quarterback Mic Roof helped seal the win with three second quarter touchdown passes. Roof connected on a 21-yard pass to Anthony Grant, a 3-yard scoring pass to Caleb Auer, and a 2-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Blackwell to push a 21-0 lead to 41-0 by halftime.
Roof finished 10-for-13 for 154 yards and the three touchdowns passing for the game, which all came in the first half.
Martin Mangram gave Buford a quick 7-0 lead on a 3-yard scoring run and Grant followed later in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run for a 14-0 lead. Cooper Simpson scored on a 20-yard run early in the second quarter to make it 21-0.
In the third quarter, Da’Mario Lott pushed Buford’s lead to 48-0 on a 2-yard run and junior kicker Daniel Garcia capped the scoring with a 36-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
The Wolves will play host to North Oconee next week.
