BLAIRSVILLE — Union County moved into the second round of the Class AA girls state softball tournament Wednesday.
The Lady Panthers, the second seed from Region 8-AA, swept Bowden 1-0 and 6-4 behind a pair of wins from Laken Chambers in the circle. Chambers struck out combined in the two games.
Chambers also provided a spark at the plate going 4-for-7 with three RBI for Union County. Karley Nix had five hits and one RBI, Kendra Tanner had three hits, Jillian Lawn added a pair of hits, and Lydia Arrowood had a hit and two RBI for the Lady Panthers.
Union County (23-7) next will travel to Region 4-AA champ Lamar County in the second round.Lamar County whipped Early County 9-1 and 12-2 to advance.
