MONROE — Stephens County football overcame a sluggish start to knock off Monroe Area 29-6 on Friday in Monroe.
The Indians (4-1, 2-0 Region 8-AAAA) picked off four Purple Hurricanes passes to help shut down the hosts after their hot start and spark the Stephens offense.
"Our defense played really well and set us up for a lot of scores," Indians coach Frank Barden said. "The secondary played extremely well. Offensively, we need to get more consistent; we're not where we want to be on that side of the ball yet. Our offensive line played well tonight, I thought."
Stephens County led 10-6 at the half.
The Indians will look to keep rolling next week at White County.
