Schofield, Wilbanks named to Gov.'s Education Reform Commission

ATLANTA - Two school superintendents from north Georgia have been appointed as members of Governor Nathan Deal's new Education Reform Commission.<br /> <br /> Hall County's Will Schofield and Gwinnett County's Alvin Wilbanks are among the 34 members of the new group.<br /> <br /> According to a press release from Gov. Deal's office, the commission will study the state's education system, including its funding formula, and provide recommendations intended to improve the system, increase access to early learning programs, recruit and retain high-quality instructors and expand school options for families of public school students.<br /> <br /> "My vision for K-12 education in Georgia is a system driven by student need that provides local school and district leaders with real control and flexibility," said Deal.<br /> <br /> The commission members will meet at various times during the year and will devise a list of recommendations for education improvements for Georgia. Those recommendations will be delivered to the governor by August 1, 2015. <br /> <br /> Chuck Knapp, former president of the University of Georgia, will chair both the commission and a subcommittee on funding reform.<br /> <br />
