GAINESVILLE - Two men have been charged in connection with a burglary earlier this week at a house in South Hall, a crime which was captured on a home video surveillance system.

Hall County sheriff's spokeswoman Nicole Bailes says Grover Townsend, 25, Clermont and Justin Whitmire, 25, Gainesville, are shown on the tape entering a house in the 4300 block of Pine Vale Road on Monday.

Bailes said Whitmire is seen "forcefully kicking in" the back door. However, she adds the home's security system activated and the pair fled without taking anything.

Responding sheriff's deputies looked at the surveillance footage, Bailes added, and issued a lookout for the two suspects and a their getaway vehicle.

She says the pair was later spotted by a sheriff's deputy at a local scrap metal business and detained at that location. Using the surveillance footage, Bailes said Townsend and Whitmire were later identified as the suspects in the attempted burglary.

Whitmire was charged with one count of first degree burglary and Townsend was charged with being a party to the crime of burglary.
