Owner of Hall County's last 'full service' service station dies

GAINESVILLE - A man synonomous with the automotive repair and service station business in Gainesville for most of his life has died.<br /> <br /> Bobby Poole died Friday at the age of 83.<br /> <br /> Poole began his career in the automotive repair industry when he was in his early 20s and worked in it until he retired in 2008. Throughout his career, he worked at many service stations located along Broad Street. He ended his career as owner and operator of Hall County's last remaining full service gas station, Poole-Ramey BP Amoco, a business he owned for nearly 40 years, which was located near the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.<br /> <br /> From an early age, Poole was also an active member of his church and community. <br /> <br /> As a member of Dunagan Chapel United Methodist Church for almost 50 years, he served on various committees, as a Lay Leader, and as Chairman of the Building Committee. His community involvement included the East Hall Boosters Club during his children's high school years, the Hall County Democratic Committee, and serving as a Supervisor on the Hall County Board of Elections. He and his wife, Winnie, also supported Brenau University, the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation, many local schools and churches, as well as several non-profit organizations.<br /> <br /> Poole's survivors include his 106 year-old mother, Laura Ann Poole of Gainesville.<br /> <br /> The funeral will be at 2:00 Monday at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel. <br /> <br /> (A full obituary can be found on the AccessNorthGa.com Obituaries Page.)
